Outdoor Dining Tables
As someone raised in the south, who has never owned a home without a porch or patio or deck – I can say I have loved eating a meal, and sharing time with friends and family outside. When you go to decorate the inside of your home, you can easily get overwhelmed by all the options. Decorating for the outside is no exception.
Wooden Outdoor Dining Tables
For many people being out-of-doors means no plastics and metals. They want the look and feel of outside. Course, outside has its drawbacks, so some improvements on mother nature are ok. There are many different kinds of lumber that can be used to create beautiful outdoor dining tables.
What you need to be concerned with is the treatment of the wood. This piece of furniture is going to be, at least in part, exposed to the elements. That means the wood needs to be treated, so that the moisture does not cause it to warp and split. There is little more annoying than sitting down to eat at a wobbly table.
Wood allows you the freedom to stain it in almost an endless amount of colors. Or if you so chose, to paint it outright. Meaning you can have this furniture match whatever you come up with. And if, in time, as so many of us do, you change your mind, you can change the furniture to match, without having to go buy all new stuff.
Metal Outdoor Dining Tables
Metal outdoor dining tables tend to lend themselves to the more fancy styles. Not to say that wood cannot achieve that, or that all things metal can’t be plain; but with metal come wrought iron, and scroll work of delicate design. Delicate design without losing the durability.
Metal can last for years, depending on what kind. And like wood, it can be treated against the weather. Metal likes to rust, and as people, we don’t generally care for rust. Anyone who has ever ruined a pair of pants on a rusty seat, will no doubt swear off metal. But metal, and the treatment there of, has come a long way. We can now make metals that don’t rust.
Without having to worry about warp and wear, metal tables are easily made adjustable. Leaving it easy to extend the length of a table to accommodate more guests.
Plastic Outdoor Dining Tables
With plastic there is little that isn’t possible. With all the study and research put into that field, we can make it in any color, texture, and weight. It can slide out to be bigger, or have drop down table leaves. Moldable into almost any shape, there is little it can’t do. Does not rust or warp. Wipes clean with a damp cloth. You don’t have to check if it is treated or not. About the worst thing you have to worry about is the color fading should the table sit in the sun a lot. And a good patio furniture table cover should remedy that problem for you.
There is controversy over plastic, as it does not bio degrade and our land fills are getting over crowded. But recycling is in full force. You can get complete sets of outdoor dining tables with chairs all made out of recycled plastics. Thus saving the environment you have just bought the furniture for so you can sit and enjoy it.
So take some time. Talk to some professionals, and find out what the right medium for your outdoor furniture will be. Once you have done that, you can sit out and enjoy all your hard work.
